





It was 1979. For that winter and the following spring I’d been shooting Search For Tomorrow (a soap opera) during the days and performing Julius Caesar and Coriolanus in repertory at nite. By the end of spring I was totally burned out and regretfully said, “No.”
My understudy took over my roles. His name was Denzel Washington.
